Here is a tutorial of DIY fabric hair flowers that I made for the bridesmaids hair and shoes as well as my own. Their flowers arent this color, I didnt want to ruin the suprise :) Sorry I didnt post anything sooner, Ive had a very busy couple of weeks studying then finally taking my stateboard exams yesterday(also my BIRTHDAY!!) I did pass, so now I am a liscensed Cosmetologist and will be working at Rejuv Aveda Salon and Spa in the mall here in Modesto.
Fabric Flowers
You will need:
any type of fabric
needles
fabric scissors
aligator hair clips
thread
a small to medium size candle
small beads or buttons
flower templetes(I printed mine off marthastewartweddings.com)
Cut a peice of fabric slightly larger than your templete and pin the center. Then cut out the flower shape, do this 7-9 times. The more petals you cut out the fuller and larger your flower will be in the end.
Here are all my petals :)
Carefully melt the edges of the petals held 1-2 in away from the flame. Ive found some fabrics dont melt, just burn, so for those use a product like Stop Fray instead so your petals dont unravel over time.
stack all your petals
put 2 stitches in the center of the petals
fold in half and place a stitch on the crease, unfold and do the same in the opposite direction.
This will give your flower some dimension, if you prefer a flatter flower you can skip this step, or if your fabric is already 'fluffy' enough
sew back through to the face of the flower, and add small beads or buttons, when done sew to the back and knot thread 3 times.
cut a small rectangle, melt around the edges, hot glue one side of the aligator clip to the flower, then glue the fabric over it to cover the back. Make sure not to glue the clip closed! :)
Here is the finished flower!
How cute! And so simple! I should make some of these for my newborn headbands that I use as photo props! :)
